Board of Directors
Jill Ferguson was born into a gifted, multi-generational musical family, just a year behind older brother, Dan. She studied flute, then harp with Marjorie Call (Salzedo). She also began studying voice early with (Sally & Lee) The Sweetlands and several others. Throughout her childhood and teens, Jill sang with The Jimmy Joyce Choir on numerous commercials, specials and TV/Film soundtrack recordings with Johnny Mathis, Doris Day, Sammy Davis, Jr, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, the Chipmunks and Red Skelton, to name a few. Jill continued writing, arranging & singing on individual projects, as well as with several groups throughout her other endeavors (Pierce Jazz Choir, Westminster Presbyterian Choir, premiering the original Missa Americana at Vienna Konzerthaus for the International Hayden 200 year Anniversary Festival).
In the 1980s, Jill worked side by side with her father, Allyn Ferguson, co-founder of "The Foundation For New American Music", to commission new American works; and with The Orchestra, helping to contract, manage works, players, sessions, and concerts performed at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion & other venues. Jill served as associate producer with her father on projects, such as Freddie Hubbard "StudioLive", a glimpse inside a live, direct to disc recording studio with Allyn conducting. The show originally aired on BBC TV in the UK.
Jill enjoyed a 20-year career as a graduate level Psychotherapist/CDS III, specializing in dual disorders & addictive behaviors, during which time she cultivated a radio show, "CounseLine", in conjunction with private practice in Seattle, WA. Short segments, presented by Jill (& guests) covered a myriad of mental health issues and were followed by Jill responding to ‘live’ callers on relevant issues. She coordinated interventions, developed and spoke on alcohol & drug programs for several institutions, some focused on traumatically brain injured patients.
Jill has returned to her roots and original love, focusing on her songwriting, and venturing into several live performance and recording projects, producing her own, and other collaborative efforts she has in the works. Her son, Adam Ferguson Conrad, well known in Minneapolis/St. Paul area, conducts his own Orchestra, ‘Improvestra’, as well as heading up the instrumental music classes, as teacher, St. Paul Conservatory for the Performing Arts High School, and serving as Director of Music, First Christian Church of Minneapolis. He has followed in the footsteps of his grandfather, brother and other family members, scoring for various indie movies, arranging/orchestrating for local artists, as well as writing/conducting for many citywide theater productions & concerts. Very recently, he debuted his original Electric Bassoon Concerto, "American Defense", for which he won a Minnesota State Grant for the Arts to compose & conduct. Currently, Jill heads up Allyn Ferguson, Inc. as President, striving to protect and preserve the legacy of her father\’s numerous TV/Filmscores; compositions, jazz arrangements, and concert works, some never before recorded. Allyn\’s foray into the early poetry & jazz movement, with his Chamber Jazz Sextet, and poet Kenneth Patchen, as well as his pop, gospel and jazz arrangements for such greats as Sarah Vaughan, Johnny Mathis, Pointer Sisters, Andrae Crouch, Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme, have culminated in thousands of works, when coupled with his hundreds of TV series, specials and Filmscore cues and compositions.
Jill\’s other focus with the music at hand is overseeing and preparing original Suites/Concertos for both jazz band and symphonic orchestral performances, worldwide, for works to be played & heard throughout the educational arena, as well as by professional bands and orchestras. Allyn\’s Little Lord Fauntleroy score, from 1980 Rosemont production, was streamlined and performed as an eight minute Concerto, headlining a three-concerts series for Badische Staatskapelle in Karlsruhe, Germany, December 2015. More international concerts are being added in 2017, including TV/Filmscores, Master of the Game, The Four Feathers, Ironclads, April Morning, and Camille, earning Allyn an Emmy to go with his eight nominations.
